1.Any 4.75-4.8 as well as 7.0. These should be good representatives.
2. Check
http://www.w3c.org/ This site will point out where you went wrong. I cannot narrow down more than telling you that you can enter your web site, and get the validation verdict. Any NS 6/7 are less likely to let you get away with less than compliant webpages.
