BT Internet Phonebox???

Would this be a standalone Internet terminal like those seen in hotel lobbies, or something like what Verizon (U.S.) had announced, wireless connectivity via pay phones?

Something like this . . .

Image

They're basically ordinary BT public phoneboxes, redecorated with the
corporate image of BT Broadband, with specially designed multimedia
payphones installed, complete with touchscreen monitor, an in-built
metallic keyboard and in-built trackball mouse and a hidden PC
system, running Windows XP and a customised IE6.0.

Full details here, on the BT Payphone website.

It looks like it's along the lines of the internet terminal in a hotel lobby I once saw, except that it did not include a telephone. It did have a web-cam though, so the user could e-mail a photo while standing in front of the terminal.

All these cubicle type BT phoneboxes are installed outdoors. You certainly
wouldn't find one of these cubicles in the reception of any UK hotel, but it
is entirely possible to just have the multimedia payphones installed in a
hotel lobby, or similar, as a kind of standalone internet kiosk unit.

I can't imagine, who would be bothered to use them?
Business people usually travel with their Laptops.

I don't think tourists would be interested in spending time in a box.
In France they would probably pee in them.<g>

I know I wouldn't use one. But that's just my opinion.

Want to know why, I lost a Loonie in a machine for the Internet while
on vacation last year. Even the girl that worked in the place didn't know
how to work it.

Please Note . . .

I've decided to move this off topic thread, from the Club Netscape Message Board, to the much
more appropriate General Area sub-forum of the SillyDog701 Message Centre, as it contains
nothing concerning Club Netscape at all! Of course, this means I will no longer be able to
moderate this thread, or lock it down if it ends up getting out of hand. As most SD701
forum contributors are generally well behaved, I doubt that'll happen anyway.

Did you think I posted inappropriately?

I personally would not use one. But I can see a small market for it. I have seen them in London, England. Nobody seemed to be using them. There was a little curiousity surrounding them, but no one really bothered with them.
