Can't find download of 4.08

Postby snakestang » Thu 31 Jan, 2008 3:51 pm

I am trying to migrate my mail from 7.2 to Outlook. All instructions that I have read say to use Communicator 4.0 and not any version 4.5 or later. I tried to use the link provided on SillyDog, but that points to the Netscape archive site which no longer has any of the older version 4 files available. Does anyone have any ideas where I can find version 4.08?

Maybe SillyDog can get permission from AOL to keep a copy available on their site????

Thanks!

What seems to be working for more people is a process using a free utility called IMAPsize, which converts Netscape 7.2's mail format to something that can be read by Outlook Express, which in turn can then be imported into Outlook.

Directions for Thunderbird are over here. There's virtually no difference between the two methods with the exception of the "profile folder": Netscape's equivalent can be found here.

I found, after a Google Search, one site that still has Netscape 4.08. Just choose your correct language and OS.

Convert Netscape 7.2 with IMAPsize

Postby snakestang » Thu 31 Jan, 2008 10:56 pm

I appreciate the help! The program IMAPsize worked well, with only one complaint - it does not convert folders inside of folders. So I had a bit of work to do, but not a problem that could not be overcome!

I also found that the individual messages must be moved into previously created folders in Outlook Express (Yes I tried to cheat and move the folders - SOL!!)

I thank you for your help!

I will miss my Netscape mail but - life will go on!!!

I have never seen instructions which limit the use of Communicator to 4.0.x.
This article may shed some light.
As for the absolute preference of a program with the name Netscape, there are a lot of differences of opinion. Netscape is only a name, at the whim of AOL, after so many years.
