I don't know how many people know this but this but the Liberal's didn't get a majority in the House of Commons this Election, so maybe know that the PC's have more seats the west will get noticed a bit more. The Results were

#of seats:

There is a TV station from Quebec (in French) on our cable TV system here.

I watched the numbers as they came in. Even though I do not understand much of the French language, I have been to Montreal three times previously.

Where the Liberals did not achieve majority status, what happens then? Do they form a coalition government with one of the smaller parties (presumably the NDP) in order to reach a majority?

They can, however this is probably not going to be necessary. While traditionally minority governments last an average of 18 months before the government calls another election, the NDP's MPs will probably advocate most bills read by the Liberals anyway. The other thing is that the NDP has made the stipulation that they will not form a coalition unless the government agrees to do a Canada-wide referendum on proportional representation, which is something the NDP has a lot to gain from. I personally find first past the post to be a better system (while flwed in some areas) for Canada.
