CD/DVD rewriter

Postby strayreeds » Tue 15 Mar, 2011 8:58 am

Hi When I boot into XP professional the computer hangs on the splash screen with the sata DVD rewriter connected. If I disconnect it and reboot and then reconnect after the splash screen windows then loads and installs the drive which shows in My Computer and works fine. 661GX-M7 motherboard Acer ASpire SA80 Socket 775 with 2 gigs of ram and 500 gig sata hard drive. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

Just a thought, have you tried upgrading the drivers for your SATA controller under Windows?

I hadn't because windows will load it and the hard drive with no problems. It seems to be a problem before windows loads. could it be something to do with the bios? Have had the battery out and loaded default settings with no joy.

Just to clarify, when you say "splash screen", are you referring to XP's splash screen or your BIOS's splash screen?

BIOS's splash screen with a large Acer on the screen.

You "loaded default [BIOS] settings with no joy"

Have you looked closely at any/the BIOS parameters that may apply to the channel and/or SATA?

I don't have SATA for education. Does Booting sequence have any implication here?
I know that IDE devices variously have jumper settings for Master/Slave/Channel Select/Master-only. Do these apply also to SATA?

I can't load the bios with the drive attached, the only way to load it is to disconnect the drive but then it won't show in the bios. Am running out of ideas.

With the device not connected, are there any BIOS settings that pertain to sata?
Have you done any internet searching?

Do any of these links give any helpful clues? Some may not apply - you have to analyze.

The only Acer help article on eSata doesn't apply.
You may have to contact Acer and/or the drive vendor for help.
