The CIO of Circuit City said, "Circut City has launched a project to roll out Linux-based point-of-sale systems from IBM at its 600 nationwide retail outlets beginning in March."
How many, many forum squabbles over the years have I participated in, I care not to remember. All of the MSCE people pounded away at the inability of Linux to compete but market share of Linux kept growing. The Boeing Company said they would have (at this time) reservations about putting their most complex engineering and airplane design applications on Linux but it will be only a matter of time before we move there.
Even though Ballmer announces the eminent threat of patent lawsuits, some large retailers are embracing Linux and others have plans to do so in the future. I am not out to bash MS but I do want to see competition with the OS. I also want to see more cross platform applications. The price of software is very high when you look at it's ROI and that will / must change in the coming years. Linux will lead the way into a more efficient computing environment.
