Chrome 20. Anyone having problems?

Postby Fulvio » Fri 29 Jun, 2012 11:04 pm

I wonder if anyone has run into problems with v.20. I have had , at least two crashes, today, and no luck using the Restore button. No luck hitting the Home icon. Chrome has been behaving as if hit by amnesia.
I think that problems could be connected with the fact that the update to Secunia PSI was causing havoc. For a while nothing worked. But, after uninstalling that beast (in Safe Mode), Seamonkey and Firefox had behaved nicely.
I have, just, been been able to restore the two tabs of Chrome, by going to the latest History info.
ZDNet has reported that the newer version of Chrome was slower. But, considering my other problems, I can't pass judgment. Anyone else with v.20, and some issues?

Probably not what you were referring to, but according to Gizmodo, Google confirms Chrome is to blame for crashing MacBooks,
Google wrote:We have identified a leak of graphics resources in the Chrome browser related to the drawing of plugins on Mac OS X. Work is proceeding to find and fix the root cause of the leak.

The resource leak is causing a kernel panic on Mac hardware containing the Intel HD 4000 graphics chip (e.g. the new Macbook Airs). Radar bug number 11762608 has been filed with Apple regarding the kernel panics, since it should not be possible for an application to trigger such behavior.

While the root cause of the leak is being fixed, we are temporarily disabling some of Chrome's GPU acceleration features on the affected hardware via an auto-updated release that went out this afternoon (Thursday June 28). We anticipate further fixes in the coming days which will re-enable many or all of these features on this hardware.

Indeed, I had problems with some crazy software, but weird things started happening with v.18 of Google Chrome.
I use Avast, as Anti Virus, and I found out that several people, using Avast, ran into problems, when it updated from v.6 to v.7. People who never had Chrome found themselves with Chrome installed. It was not necessary to enter a password to look at the Settings of Avast, prior to v.7. I found that I could not even look at my settings, and I had no password. My existing Google Chrome profile was messed up, also.
Finally, I got a password, and was able to take a look at my Avast settings. Sure enough, there was a new box, "do not make Google Chrome my default browser", which was unchecked. Google Chrome had not become my overall default browser, but only for Avast. Some websites will open Internet Explorer, and, later, Seamonkey, but Avast did not open Seamonkey, until I check that box.
I read that a lot of Avast users went to another program. This is another case when developer think that they know best.
This issue came up in February 2012, but, I did not have full understanding, till now.

I installed the Debian Linux package made available by Google, so when a new version is released, it will be downloaded and installed automatically after the system checks for updates, just like any other Linux packages.

On another Linux installation, the settings have the AOL home page (http://www.aol.com/) listed as the Home page to load in at launch, but it loads in the mail.com (http://www.mail.com/) home page instead... :-?

Otherwise, no major issues with version 20.

It may not launch the specified home page, but it launches every time.

I have had no issues with Chrome, since that day.
