Chrome blocked and even removed by Microsoft!

Postby Antony » Mon 03 Oct, 2011 7:23 am

This is just unbelievable:
Although the Google Chrome has increased its popularity recently, Microsoft's browser is still the world's number 1 desktop browser. Here's a new twist: Microsoft's popular free security tool - Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) labelled Google Chrome as a notorious Zeus malware “PWS:Win32/Zbot”, blocked user's access to it, and in some cases, removed it from user's computer. Once the internet users' preferred browser is rendered inaccessible and even removed, the users are forced to use alternative browser.

ZDNet has the story.

It was a minor glitch which was immediately corrected. :)

I know, but think about this... the impact of this “glitch” (before rectified) was pretty impressive. Enough to kick the competitor out.

Very true. And it looked bad on Microsoft's part. They can't afford to make mistakes like this, particularly with a competitor like Google.

True, however, technically (which has demonstrated perhaps unintentionally) Microsoft has the ability to shut down any 3rd party application, as well as removing them.

My non-American educated view:
Google learns the importance of operating system, and this will give Google a good reason to enter OS market.

If this had happened on Mozilla Firefox (instead of Google Chrome), I believe the following would've happened:
Super-huge and overly exaggerated whinge from Mozilla community. Based on: History told us that Mozilla isn't as resourceful as Google (in many aspects), however, Mozilla and its community are good at making very loud noises.

Undoubtedly... I can only imagine the whining from a certain Asa character. Oh yes... there would be wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth on the part of Mozilla.
