Communicator User!

Postby rbish39 » Fri 06 Dec, 2002 6:21 pm

I am an old Communicator 4.70-4.78 user. I have had minor problems off and on. I have been told Communicator is no longer supported that I should go to Netscape 7 which I am a little leary.
I have all my e-mail settings in Communicator and hate to go thru the idea to change all of this. Can anybody give a good reason why I should update.and some hints as to what to look forward to. Thanks

Communicator is not yet dead

As a company moving forward, they have to discontinue some products.
Well, if you are happy with Communicator, then you can keep using it, or perhaps the Netscape Communicator 4.8 version for latest security updates.
Communicator is now no longer supported by Netscape, and the on going updates (for another while) is due the contract between Netscape Communications Inc and other companies (mainly varities of Unix platforms).

As for your emails, you don't have to change. Once you install Netscape 7, Netscape 7 will automatically convert your current profile (*) for your convinence.
(*) including emails, address book, bookmarks, newsgroup settings... etc.

Antony could have not said better. There are several reasons why 4.7x will be replaced, but everything depends on the definition of "support". For Netscape it means fixes, etc. and there has been nothing new, but fixes on 4.7x and 4.8. And, Netscape is supporting 7.x which is still developing. But ,on the other hand the vast majority of ISP will support only 4.7x, because they do not want to get involved with the idiosyncrasies of NS7.
You can get (not upgrade to) NS7 to get familiarized with the new, but not to abandon 4.x.

Netscape 7.0 has been very stable and still improving continuously.

Install Netscape 7.01 when it is released, get familiar while keeping communicator as your main browser until you feel comfortable.

You will like Netscape 7.xx. Try it!
