Comparison of Mozilla versus Netscape

Postby James » Fri 13 Dec, 2002 12:48 am

As you can see from my user tag, I'm using the Pigeon version (streamlined I suppose) of Netscape 7.01 from DJGM. I downloaded it this morning and have been running it throughout the day along with Mozilla 1.2.1.

Is it my imagination or is it somewhat slower than Mozilla? Or perhaps it is still developing its cache store and therefore tomorrow will be a better day to make such a judgment... what do you think?

I may be a pain at this, but I always ask whoever makes statements like yours, or, more gently like you asking, is "doing what"?
Many people feel that loading speed means faster. Browsing speed? Loading pages? Is an exact comparison made? I really would like to know.
I try to keep my browsers as similar as possible, copying to them the needed plugins. I will handle this sillydog Navigator a little differently, at least for one day, by not acquiring any new plugins files. I constantly dump the cache, so no browser stands a chance of accumulating anything, and I will not do it for this browser.
My 7.01 pigeon is 25MB, fully equipped, while Mozilla1.2.1 is 23.2.

I've not noticed any difference in between Netscape 7.0.1 and Mozilla 1.2.1. I've tried DJGM version, Netscape Official Version, and Hedikens version.

At least someone makes sense. I have tried an additional one, and used minimal plugins and bookmarks, or the full load. Nothing matters.
I remember that when my wife bought a Geo Prizm, back in 1990, a report about its performance was that it gave "an illusion of power". Since then, I do not believe anything that I can't measure.
