What do you need to know? EVERYTHING. :D

Just kidding.

My advice is that if you do not know what something does, leave it alone, because touching/modifying it could quite easily "break" your system and the quick fix for that would be to reinstall Linux all over again from scratch (which I have done enough times in the past.)

EDIT: Corrected spelling in thread subject.

Thanks.

Oh, and thanks for correcting my spelling.

I think for now I will stick with Windows.

And just play around with Linux in Virtual PC.

Back to original topic?

Switching to Linux? In my opinion, if you want to use the real power and have more control on Linux, you should learn some UNIX file structure and UNIX shell commands.

Of course, you need to set up an OS to learn it.

As for beginners, reading.

Thanks Antony.

Reading I suppose could help me a lot.

I wonder if there's a complete idiots guide to Linux?

A Google search for [ "idiots guide to linux" ] brings up 'about 3,330 English pages'. (I have my profile set to a preference for English.)
The answer to your question is 'yes'.
