Control over headers & footers and vertical placement on

Postby jremer » Tue 02 Sep, 2003 8:58 pm

I'm using an I-Book and Mac OS X, latest version (2.6, I believe)...in Netscape Navigator (Mac), I am unable to control headers and footers or adjust the verticle placement of the website pages for my printer. In print preview, everything looks centered, but not when I print. I'm using an HP 5550 ink jet printer with the latest driver (downloaded a couple of days ago.) Was on the phone with Netscape tech for over an hour today, and he could not find any way of helping, but suggested I join this forum...et voila.

The instructions in Netscape 7.1 help for are for the PC version (and work fine on my PC)...but the Mac's another story...any thoughts? I suspect it may be the printer and the code....

Thanks
Jane

Jane,
In Mac, you can select to have headers or footers, however, you can adjust the paper size and margin by creating a new paper type.
For example, in Settings, select Custom Paper Size
then click New to create a new paper type, say MyA4
You can then change the default Paper Margins on the boxes below.

You can try to print to PDF Preview (Mac OS X's built-in printer) file first, and see is the problem exist.

This is interesting... Netscape tech told customers to come to SillyDog701. Hmm... we've done a good job!

Header/Footer Problem in Netscape (Mac OSX)

Postby jremer » Wed 03 Sep, 2003 8:54 am

Antony -
Thanks for your response which is part of the solution, as it turns out. I searched HP web site and found out, as I suspected, that the printer has quirks, to put it mildly...and they suggested I had to reset the printer each time I print...so I did create a special, new page (they didn't point that out, but I figured it out), and after much experimentation, found the right dimensions...but each time I go to print out in Netscape I now have to 1) go to page setup, choose the HP 5550 printer (the default doesn't work), and then 2) select the new Custom Paper Size and then 3) print (and pray) that it happens....I'll pass this along to HP, since their "new" driver doesn't cut it.

When you say "In Mac, you can select to have headers or footers" - do you mean in Netscape Navigator, and if so, how do you do this other than what I've said, above? Are there other options?

And finally, when I printed to pdf, that is saved first in pdf format, and then printed it out, I didn't have to fiddle w/any of the settings which indicates that the problem is indeed w/the printer and the driver...oh boy.

Thanks for your help. How nice to find this website.

Sorry, my mistake, meant to say
"In NS 7 under Mac, you can't change the headers and footers like in Windows."

headers and footers problem in OS X

Postby mvwolfe » Mon 01 Mar, 2004 3:13 pm

First, never having used this type of mess. board before, does my reply automatically refer to the mess. I was reading (heads & foots.)?

Anyway, I tried using the methods described on my MAC OS X, that is, using a Custom paper size and setting the margins and it still won't vertically space the printing on my Epson Stylus C42, no matter how I set the margins. Is Anthony saying in his response that there is no way to do this at all in OS X?

What's the purpose of printing in PDF form?
