CoolBucky???

Postby jpChris » Mon 18 Dec, 2006 2:25 pm

Hi,

I did a "clean" reinstall of NS 7.2 and I noticed in the "Cool" folder there's 8 CoolBucky .dll's.
From what I understand they're AOL stuff.

Can I safely delete them? I have no use for anything AOL.

Thanks,
Chris

If I'm not mistaken, everything in the "Cool" folder on Netscape 6/7 installs has to do with the built-in AIM/Netscape Webmail functionality. If you don't use either one, I'd recommend that you first move the Cool folder to your Desktop, and then try starting Netscape. If all still works, then it's probably safe to delete them.

Hi Donzilla,

I tried what you said and Netscape wouldn't start. I got a Dr Watson error. I pasted the folder back and Netscape worked properly.

Oh, well. I guess once AOL gets their hand on you, they don't let go!

Thanks for answering me, though.

Sincerely,
Chris

I don't know why NS would not start, but since I don't have NS7.2, anymore, I can't guess what else is in the folder. Presumably, it should be safe to remove coolbucky.dll, as it is associated with "chat". This is another reason to get away from Netscape.
