Curse of Superman

Postby Antony » Tue 18 Mar, 2003 9:11 pm

We all know what happened to Christopher Reeve, but is there a curse?
George Reeves (TV series and several movies in the 1950s), was found dead of gunshot.
Bud Collyer (voice of cartoon Superman) was dead of a circulatory ailment.

Antony,
Sorry I didn't catch this when you first posted it, but I thought you would like to know that Bud Collyer did the voice of Superman on the radio in the early fifties. He also hosted a TV game show called, "Beat the Clock", which was on for years and very popular. No curse here. He simply got old and had to die of something.

We all know that death is inevitable.
In The Warren Commission on the death of President J.F. Kennedy, there were so many involved in that commission that died under mysterious circumstances. Was it coincidence or a curse?

I imagine that we will be hearing a lot about curses for the next sixty days.
Especially one well known curse, unfortunately, the Kennedy Curse.
As everyone knows, Arnold's wife Maria, belongs to the Kennedy Clan..

Who knows how many of the 130 Candidates are cursed?

I wonder if the incumbent Governor was cursed?
While serving his second term with a large majority of votes, someone decides to have a Recall.

I think that there will be an awful lot of cursing going on and it should be quite entertaining!

[This is all meant to be tongue in cheek, I don't want to start a political debate)
I couldn't resist, I guess I am cursed. :)

Chirstopher Reeve, the star of the Superman movies paralysed in a near-fatal riding accident nine years ago, has died of heart failure on 10th October 2004. He was 52.

Reeve broke his neck in May 1995 when he was thrown from his horse during an equestrian competition in Culpeper, Virginia.

Enduring months of therapy to allow him to breathe for longer and longer periods without a respirator, Reeve emerged to lobby the US Congress for better insurance protection against catastrophic injury and to move an Academy Award audience to tears with a call for more films about social issues.

He returned to directing, and even returned to acting in a 1998 production of Rear Window, a modern update of the Hitchcock thriller about a man in a wheelchair who becomes convinced a neighbour has been murdered. Reeve won a Screen Actors Guild award for best actor in a television movie or miniseries.

"I was worried that only acting with my voice and my face, I might not be able to communicate effectively enough to tell the story," Reeve said.

"But I was surprised to find that if I really concentrated, and just let the thoughts happen, that they would read on my face. With so many close-ups, I knew that my every thought would count."

In his public appearances, he was as handsome as ever, his blue eyes bright and his voice clear.

"Hollywood needs to do more," he said in the March 1996 Oscar awards appearance.

"Let's continue to take risks. Let's tackle the issues. In many ways our film community can do it better than anyone else. There is no challenge, artistic or otherwise, that we can't meet."

In 2000, Reeve was able to move his index finger, and a specialised workout regimen made his legs and arms stronger. He also regained sensation in other parts of his body.

Reeve's support of stem cell research helped it emerge as a major campaign issue between US President George W Bush and Senator John Kerry. His name was even mentioned by Kerry earlier this month during the second presidential debate.

DC Comics finally paid tribute to Christopher Reeve on 19th Oct 2004.

All of us in the Warner Bros. family are deeply saddened by the passing of Christopher Reeve, not only for his unforgettable work in front the camera on the Superman films and, more recently, his memorable appearances on Smallville, but most of all for his tireless efforts on behalf of all those affected by paralysis. His dedication to others, as well as his own courageous battle, will remain an inspiration to us for years to come.

DC Comics President and Publisher Paul Levitz said: "We'll miss Chris for his friendship and for his wonderful portrayal of our character. In the last years of his life, he gave new depth to what being a Superman can mean."

Well, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II did not pay tribute or cancel holiday to the death of Princess Diana right after, either.

It could be there is some kind of curse attributed to the superman suit. Sort of like how James dean's car had a supposed curse. The fact that the cast of the superman movies some of them had bad things happen. It is said one of the creators cursed the comics.
