Delete old versions of Netscape 4.8, 6.0 following install 7

Can you delete or uninstall old netscape versions 4.8 and 6.0 following installation of 7.0. If you can't delete old versions in entirety, can you delete portions to free space on hard drive

Yes, they can be completely removed using Add/Remove Programs.

Be sure that NS7 and NS6 were installed into separate directories. If you installed NS7 over NS7 (not the best idea), then, in actuality (as far as I know), NS6 is gone.

I, personally, would keep Netscape 4.x on the system. It is a good backup browser. Also, in the past, NS6 used to use plugins located under the NS4.x directory. I really do not know if this would affect NS7. In any case, I would recomend keeping NS4.x unless you are desperate for space.

Double check that NS7 is your default browser or make it so. If NS4 or NS6 were the default browser, you may get warning messages after they are gone.

Agree about keeping NS4.x . It is still my general default browser, except for Copernic Agent which allows me to select the path to the browser. I don't know if Netscape is smart enough to pick the correct installation of NS7 (now up to four). Important is to make sure that NS6 was not accidentally made the default browser. Just check your Preferences/Advanced/System and uncheck everything which may be checked.

Removing 4.x shouldn't affect this, because the uninstaller shouldn't remove any files in the plugins directory that it didn't create, and those files can in turn be moved to 7.0's plugins directory if required.

The only reason to leave 4.x alone IMHO is for installing plugins that require it to be there, although that can also be worked around with a little effort...
