Diagnose hardware, file error

Postby Wai_Wai » Thu 05 Aug, 2004 7:36 am

Is there any program which can:
1a. check files/folders in the drive, to see if there is any error (eg reading error, opening error etc.)
1b. correct/fix the above errors (if possible)

2. check the hardware, including CPU, RAM, HDD, CD/DVD drive etc.

1a & 1b: At least Scandisk should check your HD for consistency (Boot sector, Directory Structure, Files) and possible bad sectors.
Also wiht newer Bios-es the S.M.A.R.T. option is available ( self monitoring tool for HD - reduces performance/ speed)
2. With some of the motherbords you receive also a CD with tiny program, which monitors your system. You can also inspect the behaviour of various system components with it.

Hope that helps.

And with regards to gregors reply, on 1.a, scan disk should automatically fix errors, which can be a good feature.
