difference between 7.0 and 7.01?

Postby humpd » Thu 12 Dec, 2002 5:30 pm

I have been reading about the new NS 7.01 lately and I am planning on installing the streamlined version when it is available, but I do have one question. What big advantage does NS 7.01 have over NS 7.0? What great improvements are in it to justify a download and install? Just curious.

Aside from a bunch of bugfixes, there's no doubt IMO that the best
advantage that N7.01 has over 7.0 are the Popup Window Controls.

You don't necessary have to wait for the SD701 Streamline version
to be released, which I'm sure Antony is working on at the moment.
You can always try out the all new DJGM-i Distros of Netscape 7.01
for size, that I released earlier this week, if you would like to give
a customised version of the very latest Netscape browser a whirl.

They're available from Club Netscape, the link's in my signature.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

DJGM: thanks for the info. Are the pop-up controls in NS7.01 the same as the ones I put back into NS7.0 from the Mozilla browser? I found this at another site that restored some Mozilla functionality that had been disabled in NS7.

Not sure what you put in. Is it a xpi file? Actually, as for popups, there is one entry in your preferences/privacy, you allows you to exempt some sites from the popup treatment. And, do not ask my opinion about the popup control. Should you have the urge to get 7.01, be very careful, if you are one of those guys who uses skins other than what is given to you. There is something in 7.01, which is not compatible, and screws up your access to mail.

Postby Antony » Thu 12 Dec, 2002 11:43 pm

New in Netscape 7.01 (over 7.0)

* Popup Window Controls let you suppress pop-up ads when browsing. In Preferences, double-click the Privacy & Security category and choose Popup Window Controls.
* Home Page Group feature lets you automatically open several of your favorite pages as tabs when starting Netscape. After opening two or more pages, open the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click "Use Current Group" in the Navigator preference panel.
* New AOL Mail features let you unsend mail, check message status, and keep messages marked as new.
* COPPA Compliance and improved security including greater control of certificates.

Fulvio: here is a link to the site where you can restore some Mozilla functions to NS7.0. I will use the classis skin so there should not be a problem with mail, if I understand what you wrote in your post.

From what it says at Holger's website the restore.xpi seems to be similar or the same as adblocker.xpi. You should not worry about that file affecting affecting your skin. But, it may take out more than you need, while you include exceptions in 7.01

I found one difference:

You do NOT need to restart NS 7.01 when import a third party Theme.??
