Display URL and GoogleAdwords - HELP

Postby shopatclares » Mon 04 Aug, 2008 8:46 pm

I am desperate and I hope you can help, because I cannot seem to find an answer anywhere. We have our store hosted by ChannelAdvisor and our real store name is http://stores.channeladvisor.com/Shop-At-Clares which is longer then 35 characters. Before the redirect rule we displayed www.shopatclares.com, which is the domain name we purchased through Go Daddy. Now that does not work and Google is saying the only thing we can do is display stores.channeladvisor.com as the display URL. To me it makes no sense because they are going to go to our website when we enter the destination URL such as http://stores.channeladvisor.com/Shop-At-Clares/Dryers

I can't figure out how to fix this. I want the display url to say www.shopatclares.com. Channel Advisor says something about a CANAME but I am really clueless. I am also trying to figure out if we actually setup a webpage with GoDaddy and then somehow once you land on there you go to our ChannelAdvisor Store. Can you help or are we simply stuck stores.channeladvisor.com as the display URL

Just to make is clear, does Google allow you to advertise "[tt]www.shopatclares.com[/tt]"? Or you can only advertise [tt]stores.channeladvisor.com/Shop-At-Clares[/tt] with Google?

It seems to me, [tt]www.shopatclares.com[/tt] redirects to [tt]stores.channeladvisor.com/Shop-At-Clares[/tt]

No it does not let us display www. shopatclares.com. That is the whole problem

Did you buy [tt]stores.channeladvisor.com/Shop-At-Clares[/tt] advertising with Google - OR - did you buy [tt]www.shopatclares.com[/tt]?

If it was the first case, can you cancel from advertising [tt]stores.channeladvisor.com/Shop-At-Clares[/tt] with Google Adsense and start a new advertising on [tt]www.shopatclares.com[/tt]?

I guess I am not making myself clear. Google Adwords does not allow redirected urls to be the display url AND the display url cannot be longer then 35 characters. www.shopatclares is redirected from stores.channeladvisor.com/Shop-At-Clares so IT CANNOT be the display url, AND stores.channeladvisor.com/Shop-At-Clares is LONGER THEN 35 CHARACTERS so it also cannot be the display url. So Google is saying the only thing we can use as the display url is stores.channeladvisor.com which is less then 35 characters and is not redirected. Maybe if you go to both of the above links you will see what I mean.

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to change the behavior of www.shopatclares.com so it does not act like a redirected url. Channel Advisor says something about telling Go Daddy to setup a CANAME relationship, but I am not understanding that.

I am totally ignorant on this topic, and don't understand the following. But a bit of Google research:
CAName is [security] Certificate Authority Name.

Do a search for [ caname property ].
Some results (but see the Note at the bottom):
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa375676(VS.85).aspx
- This Microsoft article indicates requirement for Vista and Server 2008.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa385031(VS.85).aspx
- This article indicates a requirement for Server 2008, 2003, or 2000; no mention of Vista.

Cautionary Note: These two links above are complete on their lines. The Bulletin Board encoding here improperly breaks them just ahead of the open-parenthesis. When using, you will need to do a Copy-Paste to your browser.

Can you get help from Go Daddy ?

Thanks. I am going to try Go Daddy, just need to find a bit of time to chat with them. I will check out the links you gave. What I cannot figure out is why this is a common topic. Anyone who has a store with yahoo store, or prostores or anywhere must be running into the same problem. If you do not have your store built on the domain that you call yourself, then you have a problem. And I can't seem to find anyone with any knowledge of the subject.

You are great for trying to help!
