Antony wrote:That's very impressive. For me, the morning usually takes at least 1 hour during weekdays. You really shouldn't rush when you enjoy your coffee to start your day beautifully (particularly for those of us who do not live in beautiful Boston). (Don't worry, I make my own Nespresso coffee.)

That would involve waking up even earlier. I've been trying to get eight hours of sleep, and even that's been difficult sometimes. And like I said, no coffee, I drink a can of orange juice at work when I get in since it's free there.

Antony wrote:How do you get dressed in merely 3 minutes? Do you forget to do your hair and face?

I handle my hair and face in the 19-ish minutes I'm in the bathroom.

Antony wrote:Although I like English style breakfast, but it is not possible for me to have it everyday. I usually have cereal, which can't be finished in 1 minute.

My breakfast used to be cereal up until I went to college - where I had to introduce myself to portable food. My choice of breakfast is largely because they're the only such food I found filling enough to call breakfast (I also tried pop-tarts, cereal bars, and granola bars).

Ah... the poor, suffering college student. I remember it well. I admire you, Don, but I'm so glad those days are ancient history for me now.

Sorry, I can't help myself not to comment on this.
I would not consider a college student with a BMW and multiple computers anywhere ‘poor’ or ‘suffering’ at all.

When I was in undergraduate (university), I had no car, no laptop at all. (Actually, no PDA, no mobile ... etc)

Don has a Beamer? Then why is he walking to the train in the morning?

Yes, just check this old post out.
I have been wondering the same.

To quote myself, three years ago:

This is unlike Antony, who maxed out many of the specs on his recent MacBook Air purchase. I'd also like to mention that Antony's Mac Pro cost more than my BMW.

The reason I take the train to work is simple: it's cheaper. Parking in downtown Boston where I work is upwards of $25 a day, and that's not even considering the gas money, not to mention I'd have to leave even earlier since the traffic downtown is among the nation's top 10 worst. By contrast, a train ride is $1.70, and trains run every 15 minutes during rush hour.

It all makes a great deal of sense, Don. And I'm sure you are aware that I was pulling your proverbial chain in jest. More power to you for using the train, buying the 99 Beamer and getting ready in 30 minutes. I admire you.

I don't power off appliances or computers, they don't use much electricity. Turning them off and back on often might actually cost more. :P

Don,
No one ‘wow’ on a computer, but people ‘wow’ the BMW.

‘Maxed out’ was in accordance to your longevity purchasing principle.

People "wow" the BMW because you simply refuse to tell them how it was cheap (in fact I remember you even "wow"ed at the fact that the car was so cheap). On the other hand, people don't "wow" at your computers because you go out of your way to make them sound cheap, even though to the average person they're much more expensive. Tell anyone that you spent over $10,000 on a computer and they'll likely look at you funny.

You of course missed out on my concept of "maxing out" - you do that when you need to, you simply buy a laptop that's capable of upgrades and do that when it's economically convenient. For instance, I could have ordered my laptop with 2GB of RAM, but it would have been an extra $150 - I ordered my RAM for half that. And I can still go up to 4GB if I ever wanted. Same goes for the CPU, I can upgrade that to a 2.4GHz, made on the cooler and more power efficient 65nm process. With your recent purchase of a MacBook Air, it was all about getting it when it wasn't economically convenient.

When people ask, I tell them how much your BMW was. I did not refuse to tell them so. Except most people don't bother asking. (Unlike you, most people don't really need to know exactly how much spent.)

Please excuse my poor English, what do you mean by "economically convenient"? Just because it was Apple?

And, what do you mean by I bought a laptop when that was not economically convenient? It was the cheapest laptop I've ever bought, and I upgraded it to save my future trouble as well as making it last longer, what's wrong? As for the Mac Pro, I only ordered the minimum amount RAM (6GB) available, I then upgraded it to the amount you approved and not maxed out.

I don't buy things when I know I can't afford it. And remember, I always pay off my credit card in full by the due date. no interests being charged, and earning rewards points ( money back) for nothing.
