Postby TechnoTom » Mon 15 Sep, 2003 2:53 am

hi,
my girlfriend has an old ibook. G3, I think. it is blueberry and has 300 mhz
does Mac OS X run on this ibook?

EDIT: i found something: it says that the Maximum OS Version is Mac OS X Capable. is that correct? can I install any version of OS X?

I have another question: i search more Ram. does only PC66 ram runs on this iBook. or does pc100 runs, too? how about this? --> SAMSUNG/MICRON 256MB PC100/PC66 144PIN CL2 SODIMM 32x8

thx 4 hlp

From what I understand, so long as you have at least a G3 Processor and 128mb on Mac, Mac OS X will work. As for the memory, I've got no idea - but I do know Mac OS X is like Windows XP, it loves memory - the more memory you feed it, the faster it will run.

Processor speed would be more inportant for Mac OS X. However, there are reports said with 10.2, it runs remarkably well in old G3s, a lot better than 10.1.

Both are important, but if you do not have enough, the OS has to constantly page data from memory to the hard disk - resulting in slowdowns. At least Apple says you *need* 128mb of ram, unlike MS who pretend 64mb ram is enough.

I have a 900 Mhz G3 iBook and I have found that OS X and 9 run very, very good.
