Don't use IE; say French, German governments

Postby Antony » Mon 18 Jan, 2010 8:07 pm

Due to recent Google attack, French and German Governments recommend users not to use Internet Explorer. A bit overkill?

WEB users have been warned against using Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) because of a security threat.

Two countries - France and Germany - have now issued warnings, while Microsoft has urged users to upgrade to IE8.

Germany warned users Friday after a malicious code - implicated in recent attacks on Google - was published online, and now Certa, a French Government agency that oversees cyber threats, has warned against using all recent versions of the web browser.

UK Government will not warn against Internet Explorer

Postby James » Tue 19 Jan, 2010 1:47 pm

The British Government will not issue a warning against using Microsoft Internet Explorer, breaking rank with the French and German governments.

A spokesman from the British Cabinet Office told The Telegraph that the British government would not be issuing a similar warning and instead would be referring anyone who was concerned about cyber security to getsafeonline.org.

Very sensible suggestions from ZDNet are presented. Anyway other browsers may not work properly at some clueless websites, because the pages are created with Microsoft software. Of course with Firefox, the
IE Tab addon will work fine, with Firefox 3.5, and later.
