downloaded zip files are changed to a Word file?????

Postby djreg » Sun 13 Jul, 2003 5:04 pm

My son downloaded a zipped desktop theme to his Windows 98 HP computer but it came down as a Word file. I downloaded the same desktop zipped file to my Windows Millenium Gateway and it came down as it should, a zipped file, which I was able to extract and install. What needs to be changed on my son's computer so that the file is still a zipped file when it is downloaded and not a word file? Thanks so much for your help! djreg

If you are downloading in Netscape, then this thread should be relocated by a moderator to the Netscape & Mozilla forum where it will get more attention

In any case, take a look at the two older threads below to see if they help you out (click on the blue links):

If this is indeed happening in Internet Explorer, and Netscape - then this thread should, and shall remain here. If your son uses Netscape - try downloading the file in Internet Explorer on his computer, if he uses Internet Explorer - try Netscape.

Your son may have caused the ZIP file to accidently try to open in Microsoft Word. This is easy to fix, you might want to go into the Folders Properties, just to be sure - as illustrated in the screenshot.
