Easier to reach SillyDog Using IE

Postby profman » Mon 29 Sep, 2003 11:12 pm

My Netscape 7.02 browser has frequently been unable to reach SillyDog in the past several days. During this period, sometimes (but not all the time), IE 5.5 on this system will be able to connect with SillyDog. I suspect that this may have something to do with my University's automatic proxy server settings which Netscape sometimes hangs on using.

In any case, I certainly do not enjoy using IE. I hope the move to a new server will solve some of this problem.

Also, BTW, IE 5.5 displays the pages as slighly oversized, requiring a bit of scrolling to see the whole page. I'm running at a screen resolution of 800 X 600.

Hi,
It has I rearly use netscape or mozilla any more juse Internet Explorer but I see your point it does come up faster in Internet Explorer then netscape or any other browser.

If you all want to know why I am now using Internet Explorer please do it by P.M,s or E-Mail me. But you probably do not want to know.
I will tell part of it though (Internet Service Provider no longer supports netscape or mozilla and I am doing a bunch of server changes myself and other reasons)

The oversized problem in IE is interesting, I checked out the site in IE 5.5 SP2 under Millennium and it looked fine, it also looks fine on IE 5.01 SP4 under Windows 2000. Though it could be related to my huge resolution, 1600x1200.

For me the site is now running faster than ever under Mozilla, but I do only have a dialup Internet connection, unlike the much faster Internet connection your university would use, profman.

It also looks different here with IE 6 under Windows 98.

the oversize issue in IE and Netscape is actually due the the dpi used.
If font size not controlled by style sheet, IE displays a bit larger than Netscape.
If font size is controlled by style sheet, and if I use point instead of piexl, IE take different dpi then Netscape, hence results different font size. (both are adjustable)

In web design, we should not ask users to change the system settings. Hence this oversized issue would be the last thing to worry about, as long as not far too large.

I'm guessing you're talking about the curved corners. They only work in recent Gecko based browsers.
