Embedded BMG web sound

Postby Danceman » Wed 04 May, 2005 12:28 am

Hi all, been trying to find the plugin or extension that is available to convert Microsoft BMG embedded sound so it can be heard through Firefox and I believe Mozilla browsers. I had downloaded it from one of the mozilla extensions or plugins web site and it worked fine for the sites that used this type of embedded sound. My computer crashed and I was forced to reformat and now I cannot find the add on. any help appreciated

Regards,,, D

I had never heard of such embedded sound, especially with Microsoft tacked on. As far as I know it is for copy protection, but you will have to come up with a few clues. At least give one or two examples of the sites.
I have checked the extention room, and, I found nothing

Embeded BG web sound

Postby Danceman » Wed 04 May, 2005 4:29 pm

Here is example of web page. The midi on this page will not play with Mozilla or Firefox. but I was browsing through the list of extension pages or other download pages from the firefox site and came across this small download that would convert the midi tag into usable sound that would play in firefox.
PS- I believe it was created by an individual. and also after using it for awhile the Firefox update feature informed me that there was a newer version available and I was able to download and install using the firefox update feature. here is an example of the sound I believe BGSOUND.

Danceman,

Are you thinking about the ActiveX plugin, from Adam Locke? This is the page for the ActiveX plugin download location of both Mozilla 1.7.7, and Firefox 1.0.3.

Don's embedded midi doesn't play in Mozilla or Firefox because he uses an IE proprietary HTML code:
Code: Select all
<BGSOUND SRC="aptiva.mid" LOOP="1">

Gecko browsers require the EMBED HTML code.

You want the 'BGM Conductor'extension.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=206216
Audio not playing, but no Missing Plugin Alert
If a page fails to play embedded audio but you do not get a 'Missing Plugin' alert, then it is possible that the page uses the non-standard 'bgsound' tag instead of the 'embed' tag to embed the audio file.
To make these pages work, you can install the 'BGM Conductor' extension from here: http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=369
This extension changes all bgsound tags to embed tags when you view the page, allowing Firefox to detect the embedded audio.

However, I recommend you also e-mail the webmaster for the page and ask him to change it :)

Embedded BG web sound

Postby Danceman » Wed 04 May, 2005 7:55 pm

Yes, that is it. Thank you Alice. Gosh I just could not find that web page. I am using Crescendo for midi, with Mozilla. So with the BG conductor installed when I open a web page with BG tag it now does play but the crescendo player always comes up on screen unlike Firefox where it does not. But anyway I am just happy to finally locate the conductor. Thanks again Alice.
I came back to Mozilla from Firefox, not because it is better, I really liked Firefox better but I had some issues that might have been system requirement problems.

again , thanks for direction.

You're welcome.

I'm glad that I remembered that extension from the MozillaZine Embedded & Streaming Media Guide thread, which I had in my bookmarks :)
