Error in Preferences File

Postby arcaterra » Mon 08 Dec, 2003 6:21 pm

Everytime I start up Netscape COmmunicator 4.75 I get an error message that says" an error occured while reading the preferences file, default preference will be used." This has messed up my email on CorelCentral which is tied into 4.75 How can I solve the error message and have Netscape 4.75 use a profile that has all of my preferences on it. Thanks

I don't know what happened to your preference file, so assume the worst, and do not try to patch up anything, unless you know what you are doing. Creating a new profile will do the job, and you copy key files like bookmark.htm, Inbox, and Sent files from the old to the new user profile, using Windows Explorer.
I know nothing about Corel Central. The problem may have originated there.

Thanks for responding so quickly. I did as you suggested, - changed my profile, copied files into new user profile. But I still got the error message about default preferences being used when I tried to start Netscape 4.75. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks
