Error Mssg "An Error Occured While Saving Mssgs" o

Postby Nyxola » Sat 27 Mar, 2004 10:29 am

:oops:
I am new to this-an attglobal ser rep suggested I try Sillydog when she could not answer a NS 4.8 question and NS help desk wants $40 a pop for any useful info;
problem is two fold-most acute is I get the mssg "An error occured while saving messages.", and I can't duduce what I did wrong. I followed ATT advice to check settings under Preferences in Edit
and got nowhere. Every time I click Get Mail the same mssg downloads then the error mssg pops up
ATT suggested that it may be a problem with Norton Antivirus and
SPAM header conflicts but I do not have NA on this machine.
What next?
Other problem Silly dog has answered-NS makes it impossable to get a backup CD of NS 4.8. Is NS 7.1 THAT good. I have a 7.1 CD and book but no one I have talked to at work likes it.

What virus program are you running if not Norton?

1. I can not realistically answer this question about NS 4.8 mail. I hope that someone else will jump in to assist on that. Upgrading to a newer browser will not necessarliy clear up what may be a settings problem.

2. SillyDog's Netscape Browser Archive has all the versions of Netscape, including 4.8, if you ever wish to re-install it.

3. Netscape 7.1 is, in my opinion, a poor choice for Windows 9X based operating systems. It is now somewhat out-of-date (although not as badly as NS 4.8) and has a system resources leak. I would suggest upgrading to Mozilla 1.6 final or the upcoming Mozilla 1.7 final. You may actually keep NS 4.8 when you install NS 7.1 or Mozilla. The new browser should pick up all settings and profile info from NS 4.8. You may use both NS 4.8 and the new browser, although they will not be using the same profile.

Mozilla is a lot like Netscape but without the AOL stuff like AIM and NS Webmail built into the E-mail component.

I don't know what they would mean by SPAM heade conflicts, but you may have some header file problem. First of all, close Netscape, and then open Windows Explorer and follow the path to the mail, i.e: Program Files|Netscape|Users| and delete the Inbox.snm file. Don't bother the Inbox only file, where all your mail is.
What do you mean NS makes it impossible to get a backup CD, and back up of what? I don't get it.

I assume that by a "backup CD" Allen meant that he cannot currently acquire a copy of Communicator 4.8 on a physical CD-ROM from Netscape. Of course, nowadays even the "official" Netscape 7.1 CD-ROMs and Guidebooks have been discontinued.
