Error writing to sent file

Postby delphinus » Sun 19 Sep, 2010 3:21 pm

I get an error when I send an email with an attachment. Thunderbird cannot save a copy in my sent file. I am thinking I have a corrupted file somewhere and am thinking of uninstalling Thunderbird and re-installing.

If I do this, will the new installation automatically find my profile and pull in all my email that I currently have saved?

Assuming you don't delete all existing profiles on uninstall, it should. But it would still be best to make a backup of your profile.

Also, correct me if I am wrong but I believe the sent file is part of the profile, and thus reinstalling would do nothing if you don't use a new profile.

What you could do to test this is create a new profile and try sending email and see if you get the same error message.

This is a site where you can find instructions for backing up your profile.
http://support.mozillamessaging.com/bg/ ... _a_profile

Your profile can be found here: "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\"
Without the quotes paste that in Start>Run. Like so:

Not sure what the path in Start|Run is about. In Windows the path for the Thunderbird profile, is: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxx
Such files are hidden, by default. Otherwise, I am in complete agreement.
I have, never had any problem sending mail with an attachment. Could the size of the attachment be a problem.
Also, which version Thunderbird?

%APPDATA% takes you do the app data folder in the documents and settings folder. It's just a quicker way to get there.

%APPDATA%
is ok, but what is the
Mozilla part
? There is no Thunderbird folder there.
%APPDATA%\Thunderbird\
is more like it!

Hmm, I thought the thunderbird folder was in the Mozilla folder. My mistake.

It is understandable, as all other Mozilla programs appdata folders are in the Mozilla folder. The faked out a lot of people.

I guess it's kind of along the lines of useragent strings today. They make no sense sometimes.
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.3 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/6.0.472.62 Safari/534.3
