Extremely slow downloads from Sun Microsystems.

Postby DJGM » Sat 06 Nov, 2004 1:55 pm

For the last week or so, I've been trying to download the latest Sun Java (for Linux) but all the time, getting
files from from the Sun Microsystems download server is dead slow. I'd say pretty much non existant in fact!

All other downloads are fine. What gives? Are there any download mirror sites I can download the
latest Sun Java from? My internet connection is 1.5MB broadband cable, but my ISP could not help.

Any suggestions, other than wait 10 hours for a 15.6MB file to crawl across the intraweb?

It has been at least 10 hours since you posted this.

How did you get that file? Did you spend 10 hours for 15.6MB file? Or gave up?

After several fruitless attempts . . . I gave up!

It was not much better a few months when I downloaded 1.4.2_05 for windows and can;t remember how I solved the problem........... I believe I took the laptop to the Internet cafe who has a 1Gb Wide Band connection and I believe chose a different download mirror at the time.....................

But I have to agree many of the packages are large enough without having the added agony of slow server response too.....................

Hopefully sun will fix this!!!

I have had equally horrible server response issues from Macromedia and their downloads have been hit and miss in terms of download times for most of the year in my opinion (Well certainly when I needed to download stuff from there!!!) - Glad I never plumped for coldfusion............... PHP/MySQl the winners in my opinion in every case!!!!
