Facebook?

Postby James » Wed 23 May, 2012 9:38 am

I'm curious about your attitude towards Facebook. I took out an account three years ago. At first I enjoyed it... the interaction with a few friends and some family members (most family did not join up). But over the years, especially this last year, I've grown tired of FB and seldom post there anymore. I've noticed that most of my friends no longer post and some have permanently deleted their accounts. I'm toying with the idea of deleting mine as well.. not deactivating but permanently deleting it and walking away from it. I'm wondering how you feel about FB and your own experiences with it.

I love it. It's one of my most important communication tools.

Well, I completed my undergraduate degree last century, (which means that I am old). For me, Facebook is not my main channel of communication, for quick messages, iChat (AIM) is still my main channel.

Increasingly, Facebook has become a channel for companies to deliver messages and advertising (through the "Like" etc). Which means for a bargain hunter like me, has to keep an eye on Facebook.

Oh, there's always a debate whether to read Facebook messages or not, especially for people not living in Don's United States of America. Allow me to spell it out: For TV shows like Desperate Housewives, Revenge, ... etc, I don't want to spoil myself, but I can't resist myself not to read the updates.

Anybody bought Facebook share yet?

Nope. I don't see how FB was priced at $38 a share. It made a miserable first week and is now under investigation and there is a class action lawsuit filed against FB. I personally think it is on the decline in terms of usage. Sure.. it's all well and good to say that the membership is approaching a billion BUT the truth is... fewer and fewer "members" even bother to post on a regular basis anymore. I'm still hanging in there but as I mentioned earlier... I find it increasingly boring.

I use Facebook, and Twitter, and now Google+, strictly to spread my ScienceSprings blog.

Dropped both my Twitter and FB accounts some months back. Too invasive of privacy and far too insecure for my liking. As far as communicating... email is good enough for me. I don't trust these social media sites.

I don't have many friends on Facebook. (Who wants to be friend with a poor guy like Antony anyway?)
Most of those social media help you finding more friends/connections if you supply your login and passwords for AIM, Skype, Gmail... etc. I am happy to manage those myself.

BTW, anyone with Game Center account? Please add me. (Just to compare iOS achievements)
