Failed security update

Postby Fulvio » Tue 10 Nov, 2009 4:21 pm

It took about 45 min for the Microsoft security update to fail. I was told to go to the history, and this is what I found:
Security Update for Windows XP (KB969947)
A security issue has been identified that could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to compromise your system and gain control over it. You can help protect your system by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this update, you may have to restart your system.
How to Uninstall
This software update can be removed via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Does anyone understand what I am supposed to do? I have not been able to find any link to the above.

I think I got it. The link at the Update page was sending me to a earlier KB. Only after I did a Search for the KB listed in the previous quote, I was able to download and install the update.
It took me more than one hour to get do this. Thanks, Microsoft.

Fulvio, is it just me or do you have bad luck with updating? :) Glad to see you got it worked out though.

John: Naw, it must be just you.
Microsoft has a filter on their downloads' servers that checks for Fulvio's IP address. When triggered, it activates "Conniptions-Routine47-ENU.exe", which is super hidden so that he can never see it.
