FF shut down problem

Postby humpd » Wed 05 Jan, 2011 2:33 pm

I have been having a problem every now and then in getting FF (latest version) to stop running after I close the program. I notice this when either I or my wife attempts to start FF and nothing happens. When I go to check the task manager, I see FF is running. After I stop it using the task manager, I can then run it as usual. Is anyone aware of this problem and is there a fix. I am using 64 bit Windows 7.

How do you close your program? I, always, use, File|Exit, and I have never run into any issue. It is important not to try to reopen Firefox for 10-20 seconds, to make sure that everything is shutdown.
Since I have three versions of Firefox on my computer, and I use, periodically, all of them, with different profiles, I had noticed in the past popups which told me that Firefox was already running, if I tried to open another version too soon.

I use the red X in the upper left of the screen to shut down. I will try using the File-exit option. I will also make sure that enough time goes by to make sure that all is indeed shut down before launching the program again. However, I do not know why 10-20 seconds is needed. In an earlier version of FF and in Windows XP, there was a program that made sure that FF did indeed completely shut down when one exited the program. I do not think there is a version of this program for Windows 7.
