Why is it so hard (read impossible) to find a download link to the current version of Mozilla (1.6).
Someplace I found a FTP site where I D/Led a file callled "mozilla-win32-1.6.zip" However this appears to be a zipped collection of files/folders. Is this the "new' way to install a program?
The "new" mozinfo701 site is no better. It should be the logical place on "here it is" and "here is how to install it"

I just go to http://www.mozilla.org/ and find the latest stable release (no "a" or "b" in the release number). The latest release right now is Mozilla 1.6. Clicking on Mozilla 1.6 sends you to

http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/

Clicking on the Download Now Button sends you to the page

http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/download/

where you can choose the version for your OS. Choosing Windows causes the file, mozilla-win32-1.6-installer.exe, to be downloaded. This is the "normal" installer for Windows.

The zip files are for people who do not want their system altered by a new browser. The zip files merely install everything into a set of directories.

A message like this should be made into a "sticky" so it stays front and center on the forum. Info like this is second nature to the "pros" but the novice has a harder time deciphering the what / where

The unzipped file is not an installation. I use .zip files all the time, if I can find them, till I am satified that a certain version is a keeper.
My normal procedure is:1.Download the .zip file
2.Unzip it. I prefer to select the location. Then I rename it to what it is.
3. I copy the Plugins folder from another similar version, paste it into the unzipped folder.
4.Create a shortcut. Then I delete the .zip file.
5. I will rename the Desktop shortcut, and replace that ugly Mozilla icon with any icon from my iconopak folder.

Now, I can proceed.
If I don't like the version, I delete the unzipped folder and the desktop shortcut.
It takes more time to explain than to do this.
Since, Mozilla was split into two components, one being the GRE folder, I prefer to use this method all the time.
