Re: Firefox 11 is out,also Seamonkey 2.8

I wonder if we can combine all the posts. Not surprisingly, along with Firefox and Thunderbird 11, there is a Seamonkey 2.8. The update was very simple, using Help| Check for Updates, downloading the small incremental. That process has not worked for the newer Firefox and Thunderbird, requiring the download of the full installer. I will try.
I did, and Firefox updated to v.11, by downloading the partial file. But, Thunderbird did download the file, went through the motions, and then I got a notice that the update could not applied. The complete download did work.

This is not really a major new release, despite the major version number jumping to 11.0. It's really only an
incremental update with bugfixes, rather than a bunch of new features. I think of it as Firefox 4.7, not 11.
At the same, the Firefox 10 ESR version is updated to 10.0.3, or you could look at it as 4.6.3 instead.

The last really major version of Firefox was 4.0 - released exactly 51 weeks ago, after umpteen betas.

TBH ... software version numbers are becoming more and more meaningless.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Indeed. We've been saying this all along but Mozilla doesn't listen anymore.

I'd say we should ignore all the version numbers altogether, and just update software as and when we need to.
Firefox is officially up to v11.0, Chrome is up to v17, IE is up to v9 (or 10 on W8) SeaMonkey is up to v2.8,
while Safari is up to v5.1.4, and Opera (desktop PC/Mac version) is up to v11.61. Yeah, right, whatever!
Ultimately though, who gives a . . . . ?!?

I couldn't care less if a version number is 1.5.9.0.3 or 159.0.3, as long as the software works as well as we
expect it to, it's as bug-free as it can be, and all known security vulnerabilities (if any) are fully patched.

IIRC ... it was recently speculated that Mozilla might start hiding version numbers, except in - Help - About.

I have, never, paid attention to the v. number.
