Firefox 12 Puts an End to Annoying Updates

Mozilla's Firefox 12 browser made its official debut on Tuesday, featuring a nearly silent update process as one of its most important new features.

“We put a lot of work into making the Firefox update experience easier,” explained the official announcement on the Mozilla Blog on Tuesday.

From now on, “once users give explicit permission to Firefox on their first installation, they will not be prompted again for subsequent releases,” Mozilla says.

Firefox for Windows achieves this simplified process by removing the user account control dialog (UAC) pop-up that has traditionally required explicit user permission for each update. There's no adverse effect on system security, Mozilla said, but there is a great benefit in terms of fewer interruptions for users.

The stealth unstoppable (quite likely uncontrollable) self update for Mac OS X version of Firefox is planned for version 14.
Without a doubt, Firefox 14 won't take long for Mozilla to rush it out.

I remember clearly that Mozilla people had not been very kind to Apple's Software Update on Safari browser in Windows platform. It is interesting to see that Mozilla decided to take such dramatic step on forcing users to the latest of whatsoever they deem fit.

Based on my reading, the title “Firefox 12 Puts an End to Annoying Updates” can be read as
“Firefox 12 Puts a Start to Nazi-style Updates.”

James, what's new? Of course, the way Antony takes it, is as if the updates will take place, no matter what!
I am going to open Firefox, and see what's cooking.
