Just a note of interest

It is fairly straightforward, under Windows XP, to convert your drives from Fat32 to NTFS without reformatting and without loss of data. NTFS is "better" than Fat32 unless you have some peculiar reason for keeping it.

Two good hits were:

How to Use Convert.exe to Convert a Partition to the NTFS File System

Converting Hard disks formatted to the FAT file system to NTFS

You are right when you say that NTFS is a "better" / more robust file system.

But I do know that FAT32 on a XP machine in combination with a Linux live CD version is a working combination "out of the box", or straight from the Live CD.

NTFS and a Linux Live CD will most likely give slightly less fun, when it is discovered that one can read, but not write files to the freshly NTFS formatted partition without loading Linux NTFS drivers first.

(I will have to fool a bit with Knoppix myself to find out if these drivers are included. For now I am not 100% sure)

I sure didn't intend to end up this far off topic, I had seen somewhere someone mention that they thought it was a limit in Firefox.

But THANKS to all the good help, I converted the download drive to NTFS, down loaded the 4,342,594 file and all is great again.

THANKS for the good help!

Referring to what?

Never mind. There were quite a few replies since I previous one. It seems, obvious, that it was not a Firefox issue.

Subject Re: 4 gig download limit

it was not a download limit in Firefox, but a limit of the FAT32 system, advise / fix was to convert to NTFS

Again, Thanks to all that helped advise
