They, surely, make it difficult! After fumbling around for several minutes I was able to download 3.0.17

What are the main reasons to use 3.0.x series still, BTW?

I had found that 3.0.x was, contrary to reports from the Mozilla people, faster than 3.5.x.
The latter, also, was using more resources, no problem for most, but some problem for me.
And, finally, I did not have to hunt around for compatible addons. But, I had given up on 3.0.x, over one week ago.

I tend to stick with a good branch as long as it is being updated. Once updates stop, I'll consider moving to the next branch if there are no complaints about the new branch.

The 3.0.x branch was the last branch to use an HTML file to store the bookmarks. An HTML file meant that some free bookmark management tools could be used. The new format in the 3.5x branch and above is not HTML, and those bookmark tools did not work.

I recently updated my main computer to the the 3.5x branch and do not see any terrific improvements, although I do not consider the 3.5x branch "bad."
