I got it from the incremental (Help|check for Updates.
Most important is the fact that I can install a functional Prefbar, which did not work in the previous 2or 3 builds.

Abiut RC3

Postby Fulvio » Wed 11 Jun, 2008 5:20 pm

I got this from CNET.

If you were planning to host a Firefox 3 launch party this week, keep that bubbly on ice a bit longer.

Mozilla on Wednesday released Firefox 3 Release Candidate 3. Windows and Linux users won't likely feel a thing; the new browser is considered stable on those platforms.

I am using the alleged RC3. My Help|About Mozilla Firefox is the same as that of RC2.

Basically what RC3 did, that RC2 had not done, was to steal default, although I had unchecked the box to make it default. FF3 will make a lot of people angry, if it keep up this nonsense.

I don't think so, Fulvio. Just an opinion, mind you, but I doubt that very many people are as obsessed with "stealing default" as you seem to be. I could care less. It's an easy thing to simply switch over to another browser and have it ask for default status. No biggie. But again... that's just my opinion. And furthermore, I think that most folks don't bounce around from browser to browser. I know that I go days (sometimes weeks) using FF as my default before I bother opening another browser (as I'm doing today with Opera). And while I know that some have special reasons (i.e. testing websites) for using multiple browsers, they do not represent the majority of folks who simply use "one" browser to browser... period. So, a few folks may get bent out of shape but they do not represent the majority of users by a long shot.

Fx 3.0 RC3 is a new build for Mac only, picking up the fix for Bug 436575. Both Linux and Windows builds are
unchanged from the RC2 that was already released.

James, I don't get bent out of shape. It is, just, an observation, about stealing default. I am used to it, and I have only my default browser checked to tell me if it is default. Also, my default has been the most recent final release Firefox or Flock (in a few cases). I look at not final Firefox, only, to see how it behaves. And my three Firefox and two Seamonkwys mind their business, and behave quite well.
Also, I knew that RC3 was to correct a bug in Macs, but, since it was available for pcs, I decided to get it. And, sure enough it did something different from RC2. It took me less than one second to correct the problem. I, just, don't like to have a program tell me what I should do, without asking me.

Okay... help me here, Fulvio. Why is "stealing default" such an important thing? I've seen you repeat this observation many times over the years and yet never seen anyone else make that observation. So, I'd appreciate your educating me on this matter. As I mentioned yesterday, I truly do not understand the issue. For me, it's not really a problem and I suspect since no one else has ever mentioned it, it's not a problem for most folks. I really don't understand the point but I'm willing to learn. :)

RC3 was out yesterday. I'm using 3 RC almost exclusively on my xp box.

Only 2 significant criticisms:

1. The built in download anti-virus checker takes forever on my machine. I'd like to have the option to defeat it.

2. The page redirect blocking function causes problems with ebay's relisting java script & doesn't get along real well with pay Pal's log in page & several other similar pages. It needs work. One of the problems is that it appears to be deafeatable only once for a given session on a given page. It needs some sort of a whitelist option like No Script has

Whenever I download & save a file at the end of the download it runs it through some sort of internal av. IF I remember right, I believe this was addressed in the release notes.

I think I had noticed some virus checking in the betas. Which one I don't know, bur any slowdown was minimal. I have not seem any virus checking with the very latest RCs.
