True, but I am sure there are people looking for "padlock" on the browser skin. Getting rid of the familiar "padlock" icon is a very stupid idea in my opinion.

I agree with this. Especially for people who are perhaps not so 'computer literate'.

I'm a newbie and obviously not as knowledgeable as most of the members here.

I have one question though:

Is the most recent version of FF worth downloading? My reason for asking: I DL 4.0 when it came out and all I had was one problem after another plus I lost a lot of the addons I had become so used to over the years since they were not compatible with the newer version. It was like I was lost without them.

I decided to go back to using 3.6.19 which, for me, was one of the most stable versions, however, I understand there is not much if any support for this version now, and I'm beginning to have problems with it freezing and crashing. When that happens I shut down FF and open Pale Moon which is a much faster version of FF and performs really well.

One thing I've never understood is why FF seems hesitant at times or just really slow. Does it perform better with Mac than with Windows?

Thank you for your time.

I'm a full-time Pale Moon user, and while I can attest that it's faster than a stock Firefox, there isn't any good reason Firefox should seem sluggish when Pale Moon doesn't. One guess is that your Firefox profile may have some issues - malfunctioning add-ons, bloated or corrupted preference files, or something of that sort, which would also explain the issues you're having upgrading to newer versions of Firefox.

I would try and upgrade to the latest version (7.0.1 at the time of this writing), and see if it gives you any further problems. I've also had issues with add-on compatibility, however most of the time Firefox automatically disables them - if I tell Firefox to enable them anyway, they continue to work fine.

Re the ot: Just thought I would share that at the moment FF 7.01 in XP SP3 is using 480,000k of memory & won't fully load ebay pages with 2 tabs open........ The memory leaks are better, but by no means resolved.
