If he only uses one computer, then I'm not sure what advantage syncing could possibly have. When you have several computers (as we do), it sure comes in handy and Lastpass is a master at this... between computers... between browsers. In fact, your friend might find that syncing would come in handy if he uses a variety of browsers, Antony. Safari, IE, Firefox, Opera 11 beta, Chrome and SeaMonkey are all browsers which use Lastpass so you could switch among them and use the LastPass vault to navigate to any of your bookmarks.

In addition to Lastpass, there are other non-cloud solutions, some open source.

My favorite is Password Safe (open source). I use it for everything, but I also use FF's password manager for non-critical sites only.
