Firefox to drop forward button.

Postby Antony » Sun 06 Nov, 2011 8:33 am

It seems like Firefox not just follows Chrome, but also tries to beat Chrome.

According to Mozilla Links post, Firefox will remove "forward button" and trying to make the Firefox interface even simpler (or Spartan I shall say) than Google's Chrome.

Recently, Firefox dropped the http:// indication from URL bar, and even went ahead on removing the good old familiar padlock indicator for secure connection (https://).

At time of writing, the current shipping version Chrome (15.0.874.106) still has forward button and padlock indication for secure connections.

This topic, as other similar ones, involving dropping thing has been holding my attention, for such a short time, that I replied, and did not send. Anyway, my Chrome version has been 17.0.928.0, as mentioned in another topic.
Chrome has the mentioned items.
But, I wonder how many time the Forward arrow has been used by anyone. I will miss as much as dropping the lock, which is replaced by a Verisign item.

I would say about 75% of the time when I use Back button, I would use Forward button at some stage.

I'm sure someone will come up with an Add-On to restore it...

The problem is that with these rapid releases addons become very quick incompatible. At one time, I was using thenightly tester tools addon to override incompatibility, but this is hit or miss now. A neat addon, Quick Restart, which worked in FF7, using the Nightly Tester Tools gives me no option other than removing it.

There are many issues with those (forced by default) rushing releases. It is, without a doubt, suite certain open source extremist who can't survive without the latest version of whatsoever; however, new features (if any) and changes of behaviours simply can't be well adopted by majority at such ridiculously short period of time before the next new set of so called “even even more awesomeness” comes out.

It's good that they are making it an option.
