Supermarkets can apply permission to sell liquor in New Zealand. The thing is that they must be able to lock the access to the liquor section after certain hour.Edward wrote:Locally, the liquor stores are fighting a ballot initiative. If the initiative passes in the election next month, supermarkets (food stores) in Massachusetts will be allowed to sell wine.
Current Massachusetts law allows this, but each supermarket chain can only sell it in three (3) of their stores, state-wide.
The liquor stores have a monopoly when it comes to selling beer and wine, yet they don't want the competition from the supermarkets?
If someone wants wine with their dinner, they should be allowed to buy it in a supermarket.
It is still cheaper then getting Coke from pub/bar. A glass of Coke is about $4.50 which is more expensive than a schooner of beer.Mandrake wrote:$4.50 for a 2 litre Coca Cola is really excessive. Considering that the liquor shops just usually buy it from the supermarkets when it's cheap. They buy it for $2 or so, then put it in their fridges and charge more than double for it!
