The new Coke cans

thinner, taller, but dearer.

It's only 300 ml, compared to regular 375 ml; and it costs more. "Less is more."

It looks like they copied the cans from Red Bull. Maybe the increase in price is a royalty fee for the design? :)

Some facts from an authoritative source:

1. Benzene can form only in certain soft drinks containing both benzoate salts (preservative) and vitamin C or erythorbic acid. These are mainly fruit-flavored drinks (not colas).

2. Drinking water has a benzene limit of 5 ppb (parts per billion), although soft drinks have no limit on benzene levels.

3. One random survey of soft drinks gave levels between 2 and 6 ppb, although levels in abused samples (hot and lots of light) gave levels of 7 to 30 ppb.

These drinks are being reformulated, but you may wish to avoid this type of soft drink or be sure to keep them cool during storage.

There are people who just can't give up drinking Coke.

Today Tonight on 29th September had a story about a guy who drinks 60 glasses of Coke a day. I think that you might be interested.

[qtembed=rtsp://qt.sillydog.com/qt.sillydog.com/tt/CocaCola_60glasses_1450.mp4|400|240]http://sillydog.org/graph/ss/others/qt_tt_cocacola.jpg[/qtembed]
(Streamed, 5 min 12 sec, 512kbps broadband connection required.)

Enjoy the video.

The video clip is encoded with state-of-the-art video codec H.264 to save the file size. QuickTime Player 7 (free) is recommended for watching the video.

No talk of Quicktime, hanging people or Mac OS please! There are threads for this exact purpose!

I have to admit to drinking a lot of Pepsi Max... two or three liters a day, but the guy in that video is crazy! Sixty glasses of Coca Cola a day!? How could anyone so much of anything - be it water, cola, fruit juice or anything else!?

From the look of the video, each glasses is about 200 ml to 250 ml I'd say. That converts to 12L or 15L of Coca Cola a day.

Take that he could buy 2L Coca Cola from supermarket for AU$2 (per 2L bottle) when they have specials... that's AU$12 to $15 (minimum) a day, just on the soft drink.

The regular price for a 2L bottle Coke from supermarket is at least AU$3.

Eitherway 12-15 litres a day of any fizzy beverage, be it Pepsi, Coke, or some other, is completely mad!

And if all that fizzy pop consists mostly (or entirely) of sugary stuff, then I'd hate to see the dentist bills!

If we take the price of Coca Cola at Woolworths, which is $2.72 (I know all the prices, I work there doing Nightfill :P) for a two liter bottle and say that he drinks 7 1/2 of these per day that equals $20.40 a day. This is $142.80 per week, or $7425.60 per year just on Cola. That's crazy!

The moral of this story is: don't buy Coca Cola from a liquor store! :D

Locally, the liquor stores are fighting a ballot initiative. If the initiative passes in the election next month, supermarkets (food stores) in Massachusetts will be allowed to sell wine.

Current Massachusetts law allows this, but each supermarket chain can only sell it in three (3) of their stores, state-wide.

The liquor stores have a monopoly when it comes to selling beer and wine, yet they don't want the competition from the supermarkets?

If someone wants wine with their dinner, they should be allowed to buy it in a supermarket.

This is interesting. Over here it's illegal for the supermarkets to sell any kind of alcohol. The only place you can buy it is at a liquor store. But what's being popular is that the major supermarket chains over here (Woolworths, Supa IGA and Coles) are building liquor stores and having them right next to the supermarket, still operating under the management of the supermarket, but being a seperate store for liquor only.

$4.50 for a 2 litre Coca Cola is really excessive. Considering that the liquor shops just usually buy it from the supermarkets when it's cheap. They buy it for $2 or so, then put it in their fridges and charge more than double for it!

I didn't even know about that.

No wonder, one of supermarket giant Stop and Shop's three is right down the street from me. It just occured to me that the other four (big chain, eh?) around here don't carry alcoholic beverages.
