flash display problems in netscape and firefox mozilla

Postby fsctke » Sat 25 Nov, 2006 10:53 pm

hello, I am in need of figuring out why my site will display my flash in IE, but just blank holders in netscape and mozilla. I have both flash plugins for netscape and mozilla, and they are operational because I can drag a local .swf into both browsers and it will display, however at my site, I get nothing, but they do display right in IE. Please look at
highend-electronicsupershop.net in IE first, then in netscape or fiefox and u will c what I mean. thanks alot

well thats the problem, if you have INTERNET EXPLORER, and view that site in Internet explorer, you will see 3-4 .swf movies all over that page. They are on both left and right panels, and also one in main body panel. The embed code is correct as it was generated in dreamweaver, and displays perfectly in internet explorer, so please just view

http://highend-electronicsupershop.net/

using internet explorer, then open in netscape of firefox, and you'll see that they just don't display in either, but a good-to-go in IE. very odd, can't believe everyone else is not having this problem! thanks a million

Very interesting. The first link brought up something in IE, which accomplished nothing when clicked on. The site did not load at all in Firefox, using the IE Tabs, but loaded without the graphics in the regular Firefox. The second link failed to load in IE, or firefox, and Firefox with IE Tabs, did not load either, but showed msn.com in the tab.

well, I think that was because my host is having issues. try it now first in IE, then in one of the other browsers. In IE, all .swf's display perfectly and site is just as I want, but in firefox and netscape, I get everything correct except no flash displaying. my guess is you tried to look at it when the host was messing with server, that is why nothing was working. If you repeat the process now, I bet you can view it as it is supposeed to be

view in IE
http://highend-electronicsupershop.net/

then view in firefox/netscape
http://highend-electronicsupershop.net/

thanks for looking

I think I have recieved a key piece of info. If in netscape, I rightlick on tab and open site controls, near bottom is render engine settings.. Default is firefox, which will not display my .swf, however if render display engine is switched to IE, my .swf's now appear in netscape. So this tells me my source code is correct for IE render engine, but incorrect or lacking something for the firefox render engine to work with. Does this info help anybody make a better recommendation? thankyou

site in question

now I have discovered the if firefox has the IETAB extension, that the .swf will play, but this is not default, and cannot expect traffic to have these. All of this tells me that my code is only being responsive to IE methods for some reason e.g. firefox will display when IEtab enabled, netscape will display when in IE render mode. I need some code that tells netscape + firefox to display the .swf's via their own methods, and not IE methods!

I don't have Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer does not come with Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger".

Anyway, from your source code:
Code: Select all
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="250" height="200">
  <param name="movie" value="images/banner83.swf">
  <param name="quality" value="high">
  <embed src="file:/images/banner83.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="68" height="200"></embed></object>

In [tt]<embed>[/tt] tag, change [tt]file:/images/banner83.swf[/tt] to [tt]images/banner83.swf[/tt] OR preferable full URL e.g. [tt]http://highend-electronicsupershop.net/images/banner83.swf[/tt].
Next change the width and hight to the defined one.

You specified [tt]width="250"[/tt] and [tt]height="200"[/tt] in [tt]<object>[/tt] but different value in [tt]<embed>[/tt]

You should do all similar corrections for all other Flash.

thanks, I would have never guessed that, as I am more a designer that trys to foolishly mess with code from time to time often getting mixed results as my situation may have projected. Works like a charm now in all browsers. You are a great man! Laterdays--->E

There is, still, something wrong with the server. I am using IE7, and, it is waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the site. It seems to have loaded about 50%, after 5 min. but I can't see anything.
If this is not fixed, it does not matter is flash is there or nor not.
