Forum Header Cells: Rounded-Edge Glitch?

Postby Wolfey » Wed 24 Sep, 2003 4:04 pm

I just noticed this today when browsing the SillyDog701 forums...

The table border's corners are rounded off (I'm using Mozilla 1.4 here, BTW), but the image used in the header cells for these tables looks a bit odd - For both sides of the table, there's a white, curved line going through the upper corner of the background-image for the header cell (I'm betting this is part of the table border), leaving a separated "triangle" (the uncut portion of image) at the corner of the cell.

The actual image doesn't have this white line going through it. I also took a look at the forums in IE, and noticed that the problem does not occur there.
(Of course, it can't round the edge of the table border, either :P)

Is this a (minor) glitch in the boards, or could it possibly have something to do with Mozilla (or both)? Also, if necessary, I'll get screenshots of this to show what I mean.

Just wondering about this.

Thanks for reporting.

In SillyDog701, you see one of the very few websites that "enhanced" for Mozilla/Netscape :-)
It is actually the usage of Mozilla-only CSS, and it does not handle well for background image of cell. To get rid of that, I can either remove the rounded corner or drop the background image.
Since it is just a minor design issue and ended up I like it this way.

All right then - Thanks for mentioning that :)

Heh, I never knew this site was given enhancements that those of us with Mozilla/Netscape could take advantage of...Interesting.
(Then again, given that a lot of the material on SillyDog is Netscape-related... :P)

It's not serious, and I can live with it; However, I'm pretty sure that Mozilla should not be showing the corner of that image in the first place, since the borders are rounded off...
(The table border could also overlap the image when the corners are rounded like this, which would probably be a better method than what I just said earlier)

Speaking of which, I couldn't find a bug in Bugzilla related to the border/background "glitch" that's visible here - Should I file one for it?

thanks Timothy.
Recall from my testing of moz-only CSS during the initial design, the rounded corner won't work with a few elements, the cell background image was one of it. Table cell without background image (but background colour) works fine, such as the new PM notification yellow sticker.

It's up to you. however, I think I shall organise a list of moz-only CSS bugs first.
To my understanding, those moz-only CSS were designed for XUL, not really for webpage.

Thanks for mentioning that :)

I just thought of something: Instead of just going and filing a bug report right now, would it be better if I put up a post in MozillaZine (in the Mozilla Bugs section) that describes this "bug", and see if it truly is something that needs to be fixed in Mozilla?

Just wondering about this.

I would suggest you setup some pages for testing yourself first before going to MozillaZine. Personally, I feel this is not really a bug, just that moz-only CSS is only for a few elements/tags.

BTW, I recall that there are some mentions about the moz-only CSS in Bugzilla. Just need some time to verify.
