FreeBSD 6.0 (Final) released!

Postby Pu7o » Fri 11 Nov, 2005 7:53 pm

FreeBSD 6.0 was just released. Updates include updated wireless support (WAP, More cards and and inregration to the dhcpcd client), support for PPC (experimental) and "performance improvements to the filesystem and direct disk access layers of the OS. The filesystem is now multithreaded and can take full advantage of multiple CPU systems."

It's also worth noting that PC-BSD.org will soon be releasing v1.0 of their user friendly, and
consumer oriented FreeBSD based operating system. RC1 of PC-BSD v1.0 has been released,
and is the first user friendly desktop OS to be built upon FreeBSD 6.0 . . .

I tried PC-BSD a few months ago on my "testbed" PC, while it was at v0.7.5, and I have to
say that, in my experience it's the easiest BSD based OS to install and use on x86 PC's

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!
