G4 Powerbook keeps freezing on startup page

Postby jenlulu » Wed 24 Oct, 2007 4:52 pm

I'll been looking all over the internet, and it seems that there is a problem with iTunes 6.0.2, which I think I just installed. I want to remove it from my computer, but whenever I try to turn on the laptop, everything goes fine until the last part of the login process. The white box is in the middle of the screen with the Apple icon and Mac OS X is underneath with the blue loading bar, but then the computer just freezes (although I can still move the cursor) when it says "Login Window starting", just before it would normally open into the desktop. I ran the hardware test, and that was fine.

Repair Disk from the MAC OS X disk and I got the following message after it was complete:
The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK
Repair attempted on 1 Volume
HFS Volume repaired

Then I ran the Repair Disk Permissions (by the way, I don't know what Disk Permissions are) and got the following:

Repairing permissions for "Macintosh HD"
Determining correct file permissions.

And then while run it just stops and I get a pop-up window that says:
"Disk utility internal error. Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility."

I've relaunched Disk Utility several times and I keep getting this message.

I think to solve the Disk Permissions I need to remove iTunes (from what I have seen online), but how do I get to the desktop to do it? Is there another way to remove it without having to log into the desktop?

Thank you in advance to whoever can help.
