Gecko Based Browser -- Need Help!

Postby Mandrake » Sun 27 Oct, 2002 6:32 am

My friend has been working on his own Gecko based browser the past few months, based on the 0.9.9 Mozilla Trunk. His browser is almost ready for launch, about a week or so, and He asked me If It is necessary to update the code to a 1.1 or 1.2 release... What do you guys think? I know he wants to release ASAP, and updating the code will just take time.

It depends on how much work has done and required for throwing new codes into it. It not that much then use the newer codes. BTW 1.2 does not necessary mean it is better than 1.1 or 1.0.1

I would suggest try to get newer codebase if possible, because more people will more likely to use it.

Ok, I'll tell him that. Their are fairly minor changes to the Gecko engine I believe, but more addons to it rather than changes.

I'd vote 1.0.1.

You'll want the frozen APIs of the 1.0.x tree, at least for the time being.

Ok, I'll tell him 1.01 :) Because the 0.9.9 code is a little out of date now!

If I were them, I would either go for 1.0.1 or wait for 1.2

Yeah, 1.0.1 is the best choice.
