i struggled to find the correct forum to post this in, but... has anybody tried Google Chrome yet?



it has some really really neat features which build on the firefox awesome bar and the interface of opera.

there's a few bugs and glitches in the rendering but it looks really promising.

my wishlish before i could even consider making it my default browser would be:

> an adblocking plugin. it's amazing how all those ads slow down the page rendering, so i'd like to get rid of them

> mouse gestures - can't live without these now.

Intesting beast. I will give it a whirl.
It imported all pertinent info from Firefox. However

may be the kiss of death. I have completely eliminated Tabs as the slowed down my browser.
Very obvious bug when writing a post. Anywhere between one and four letters do not know at the left, after the second line. The letters appear when clicking in the empty space. I am not sure if this is an universal case, because I am at the third line, and still ok. A previous post was a mess. Ok, on this line the p of post appeared only after I typed half a line. Maybe the letters take a while to show up. And, they do!.

Very, very interesting. I played the video explaining the story behind Google Chrome, then took the tour of its features and I must say: I'm majorly impressed. However, I will not use a beta so I'll wait for it to come to completion. Thanks for the heads-up on this. Looks very promising. Particularly like the Incognito browsing ability.

Everybody I know that's tried Google Chrome have universally been saying that it's a RAM hog. I haven't had time to test it myself, but I'd guess it's due to each page spawning as a separate process, if I even have the Chrome design philosophy correct.

One key thing about Google Chrome: it is based on WebKit, a technology originally derived from the Konqueror browser’s KHTML software library by Apple, and heavily sponsored by Apple. WebKit is best known as the engine for Apple's Safari web browser on Mac OS X and Windows platforms.

Don't forget to check out the Google Chrome comic book (by Google)

A Mac OS X version is in the works, but Google hasn't said when it will be released.

Let's not be too quick to place judgment upon Google Chrome. It's still Beta and Google will put its substantial resources to getting the job done right. I'm actually rather excited about this project and will reserve judgment until a final piece of software is available. Good articles, Antony.

Thanks for pointing out. Just like the Google Docs's EULA, they admitted it and fixed the wording.

Google's excuse? They simply reused the licenses without reading it at all.

I am not passing judgment. I am, only, reporting what I see, and know about GC.
Has anyone tried to use GC, and post a message? Or, tried to make any corrections to an existing message? I am all GC, although it may compete more with Firefox than with IE. Anyway, add-ons are good, and GC can't incorporate them.
As a test, I was not going to correct the missing letters, at the beginning of the above sentence, or this, for that matter. Will they show up?
They do, given time, but very distracting.

Eric Schmidt, who once led the Java development in Sun Microsystems then became the CTO. Currently, he is the Board of Directors of Apple Inc. and Chairman and CEO of Google Inc. Eric Schmidt pointed out that the Google Chrome was designed to stop Microsoft from Balkanizing the Internet in ways that favor its own services, Financial Times reports.

"Microsoft has a history of favouring its own applications and I can give you 500,000 pages of court testimony, document web blogs and so forth and so on about that," Mr. Schmidt said. "We think that the browser continues to be an important platform; that the browser wars of 10 years ago were right: the browser matters."

It would be nice to see a 'Home' button added rather than having to hover over back arrow/history everytime I needed to go back to home page for something. Perhaps a just bookmarks folder as well rather than having to access bookmarks soley by dropping down 'always show bookmarks bar' every time. Later.
