Help installing Netscape 7 on Linux

Postby swirven » Fri 15 Nov, 2002 7:26 am

Is there anyone who has any tips or a good web site to visit to help me install Netscape on Linux. I am trying to learn Linux and I want to get Netscape installed. I am currently using Red Hat 8.0, if I can just get this installed with the plugins that it comes with I will be set. Don't download much else. I like the OS just want my Netscape on here. I have read some basic installation info, just can't quite get it. I have got the installer downloaded and I have found it. Any help at all is appreciated, Thanks. I had left a post the other day about Netscape on Lindows but I decided I did not want to go that route.

Ok, here what you need to do . . .

<=> Download the tar.gz file of Netscape 7, if you haven't already done so.
<=> Open the file. You'll get a netscape-installer folder with a tar prefix.
<=> Copy this folder to your home directory e.g. /home/username
<=> Open up the Console, and CD to the netscape-installer folder.
<=> You should then see a prompt that looks something like this:
<[=]> /home/username/netscape-installer#:
<=> At this prompt, type netscape-installer
<=> This should now fire up the familiar Netscape 7 Setup Wizard.
<=> Follow the directions as with any other Netscape Setup Wizard.
<=> Do NOT close the console window until Netscape 7 is installed.
(If you close the console during setup, you'll have start over again!)
<=> That's it, Netscape 7.0 should now be successfully installed . . .

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Thanks DJGM! Your directions worked great, it just took me a little while to figure everything out.
I had to learn some of the basic commands. Once I figured out where the console was everything went fine. I am learning this linux thing as I go. Thanks again.
