HELP !!! NETSCAPE BROWSER 8.0

Postby simplee51 » Wed 09 Nov, 2005 12:18 pm

Hello 2 ev-1:

I need the help of the professionals here. My problem is about Netscape Browser 8.0. I just downloaded the browser and not understanding how to: The problem for example: say I want to change something's in the Site Controls panel, when I click on site controls, when it's opened, the whole panel is too LARGE, where I can not see the whole page. Another for example: the Options Window, when you click on that, the prompt opens and ask for a password, that box is too LARGE. It really does not matter what I'm doing, the panels are just too LARGE. I've tried to resize them with the CTRL and the Plus (+) sign as you can do with the Web pages, but it does not work. Can someone please tell me how to size these panels so it will resize permanently to proper page size.

I thought that's where I did post it. It said Netscape, Firefox and something else, thought I was in the right place.

What is your screen resolution setting?

Under Control Panel, Display, Settings.
Try to set your Screen Area to 800*600 or larger.
And click Advanced > General > Display, set the Font Size to Small Fonts. And make sure the dpi is 96.

Hello Antony,

thank you 4 your help. My settings are already set at 800x600 and the Font was already set on Small, and the dpi is 96. I opened NS browser and everything is still the same. I was wondering, is there something I change in NS with their settings if possible, any suggestions ???? I forgot to mention that my operating system is Windows ME, could this have any bearing on NS not being compatible with my system.

I am using WinXP, and, regardless of the Operating System (OS), settings like those of the screen resolution are done in the Control Panel. As for font size, it is different, because it is done in the browser. In NS8, you go to Tools| Options|General|Fonts and colors. I never saw a dpi setting in Fonts, but rather "pixels". And, 16 is just about right. There shoul be check marks in the boxes "use my fonts". I don't have any check mark, but the silly thing uses any changes I make.
Where do you have that dpi setting?
I am using 1024x768 resolution should is good for a 17 in monitor. 800x600 is ok for a 15 in monitor.
I don't see why WinMe would be the source of problems.

Hello Fulvio:

This is how it reads under options menu in NS.

Fonts for: Western

Proportional: Serif -- Size (pixels) 16

Serif: Verdana, I changed that

Sans-serif: Small fonts -- Size (pixels) 16

Monospace: Courier New

Display Resolution: 96-dpi

Minimum font size: None

At the bottom of panel: Always use my: Fonts, which is what I have checked.

Hi Debra,
I never paid any attention to the Font options, so they must be default. I imported my setting from who knows what, long ago (I recognize the 13 pixels, for sans-serif). I had not checked the box to use my fonts, but it seems to make no difference. Your settings and mine are very much the same (I had missed the 96 dpi, but, it does not matter).
Do you have an earlier NS, or how is the problem from which you imported the settings? Or did you import the settings. Which version NS8 do you have?
8.0.4 is the latest.
But, if pages look ok in other browsers, you should not make any external changes. I would consider starting from scratch., removing the program and the profile, and, then installing the latest version.

Maybe you should try 1024x768, 800x600 isn't a very good resolution these days.

I, always try to discourage people from removin programs. I make an exception for NS8. It may not have anything to do with it, but I, thoroughly dislike it.
Take care. fp
